Researcher: Olivier Claude

The project aims at investigating the responses to Newton's Mathematical-Experimental Paradigm (developed in his Principia mathematica and his Opticks) in Jean le Rond d'Alembert's mathematical-physical work, as well as in his contributions to the Encyclopédie and other philosophical works. More specifically, it tracks the NewRemove featured imagetonian and Cartesian features of the Traité de dynamique down to his theory of knowledge and his engagement with French materialists Diderot and D'Holbach.
